SOMETIMES AS PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS WE FORGET WE HAVE A MAJOR LEADERSHIP ROLE IN OUR FAMILIES AND HOW WE CAN IMPACT THE LIVES OF THOSE WE LOVE. WE TEND TO GET TOO WRAPPED UP IN OUR BUSY LIVES AND OFTEN NEGLECT TO PONDER THE AREAS WHERE WE CAN TRULY MAKE A DIFFERENCE, "OUR FAMILY".
THIS YEAR AT CHRISTMAS WE GAVE TO SOME OF OUR FAMILY MEMBERS A SIGN THAT READ,
"FOREVER FOR ALWAYS AND NO MATTER WHAT"
WE DECIDED TO ADOPT THIS AS OUR FAMILY MOTTO. WE FEEL IT EMBODIES WHAT WE AS PARENTS WANT OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN TO KNOW ABOUT OUR FAMILY.
NOW WITH THAT SAID, WE HAVE DECIDED THIS YEAR WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS, BY PUTTING OUR FOCUS BACK ON FAMILY.
SO WE HAVE DECIDED TO COME UP WITH A FAMILY VALUE EVERY MONTH OF THE YEAR. THAT WE CAN FOCUS ON AND USE AS A TEACHING AID.
JANUARY'S VALUE IS; LOYALTY AND DEPENDABILITY
SO EVERY WEEK DURING THE MONTH WE WILL DO A POST ABOUT THAT MONTHS VALUE. NORMALLY WE WILL POST THEM ON SUNDAY'S, THAT WAY WE CAN INCORPORATE THEM INTO OUR FAMILY NIGHTS TOO. HOWEVER THIS WEEK DUE TO TECHNICAL PROBLEMS WE ARE LATE GETTING THIS UP. SO DURING THIS MONTH LET'S WORK ON THESE VALUES AND SHARE THEM WITH OUR FAMILY, CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, FRIENDS, ETC. THROUGH OUR DAILY ACTIVITIES, ACTIONS, BEHAVIORS. WE CAN USE THEM DURING OUR FAMILY NIGHT ACTIVITIES WITH STORIES, GAMES, ACTIVITIES ETC... SO HAVE FUN WITH IT, AND LET'S SHARE WITH ONE ANOTHER HOW WE FIT THESE VALUES INTO OUR DAILY LIVES THIS MONTH. WE LOVE OUR FAMILY AND WE WANT TO STRIVE TO STRENGTHEN IT AND WORK TOWARDS FAMILY GOALS AND VALUES.
WE ARE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS AND HOPE THAT WE CAN STIR AN EXCITEMENT IN OUR FAMILY AS WELL AS ANYONE ELSE WHO WOULD LIKE TO USE THIS INFORMATION. WE GOT THIS IDEA OFF ANOTHER WEB SITE. SO PASS IT ON.

I love the forever, for always and no matter what sign you gave us. And I think the value of loyalty & dependability is perfect because after all, that's what family is all about
I love this idea. And I love that we are on the same train of thought so much. I have been REALLY trying to get it burned into the kids heads that we are family and we are all that we got. That we need to make sure we can count on one another and that we always got each other's back. I'm hoping that in a few years they will start practicing this though!!!
What a great idea. Being in Young Women's once again has reminded me to focus on the "simple" things. Like loyalty, dependability, honesty, integrity, and so much more. It's all of these values that help build us in to strong individuals that value people and most importantly our family. I love that you're focusing on these important values throughout the year. I can't wait to see what else you'll come up with.
I really like the sign you got us for christmas, it hanging up behind our couch :) Really good idea, this will let us get even closer than we all already are.
I believe that Loyalty and Dependability are very important in any family or relationship. You must be loyal (never talking bad about each other, sticking up for one another, having each other's backs) and dependable (walking the walk and talking the talk, always there for each other no matter what!) We do need to instill family values in our children and grandchildren, but I personally feel the Martin family will have no trouble doing this. We had a very good teacher OUR DAD! He might not have expressed it in words, but we knew without a doubt how important all the values within a family were! So here we are teaching the next generations that the only thing in life is family. Rich, poor, sick, well, etc etc. we have each other and that is the #1 thing!
Next time you are at the book store could you get me a sign for Kris and Charity? Great dog picture too, they remind me of J.J. He has weird teeth in the front. Next time I see you remind me to show you!
That dog picture made me laugh. It's funny that Debbie said it reminded her of J.J. because I thought of him too! =)
